Born 9 July 1817 at Putney, Surrey, England the son of John Turner, caretaker/charge taker, and his wife Hannah, nee Glass. He married in 1838 at Kensington, London, England to Lucy Barnes, daughter of Samuel Barnes and his wife Mary, nee Whitby. Schoolmaster at the British School, St. Peter, Brighthelmston, Sussex, England in 1839. Minister of the Ebenezer Particular Baptist Church, Brighton, Sussex, England. Arrived at Melbourne on 6 January 1850 per "Harpley" from London, England, with his wife and a large number of his parishoners from Brighton. Held services in a building at the corner of Stephen (Exhibition) and Lonsdale Streets, Melbourne. His wife died in October 1870. He married secondly on 17 April 1871 at 73 Lonsdale Street, West Melbourne, Victoria to Alicia de la Porte, daughter of William de la Porte, surgeon, and his wife Mary Ann, nee Ryan. Member of the College of Preceptors, London. Still at Lonsdale Street East in 1887. He died on 30 December 1894 at 215 George Street, Fitzroy, Victoria and was buried on 1 January 1895 at the Boroondara Cemetery, Kew, Vic.
