Born c1816 and baptised on 20 September 1816 at St. John's, Preston, Lancashire, England, the son of Daniel Newham, spinning mill owner, and his wife Jennett(e), nee Hyndman. Educated at Manchester Grammar School, Lancashire and Emmanuel College, Cambridge University. He married in 1843 to Mary Anna Bluett, daughter of J. Bluett, advocate of Douglas, Isle of Man. Arrived at Melbourne in Bishop Perry's party on 24 January 1848 per "Stag" from London, England. Ordained priest on 25 June 1848 at St. James Church, Melbourne. First minister of St. Peter's, Eastern Hill, Melbourne. Died on 27 August 1851 at the Parsonage, St. Peter's, Eastern Hill, Melbourne, Vic., and after a service at St. Mark's, Collingwood, was buried on 29 August 1851 at the Old Melbourne Cemetery. His remains were later transferred to the Melbourne General Cemetery, Carlton, Vic.
